Description
Bellow is the audio file of my podcast. The podcast
assignment asked that we read a children's story that had a playful story line
lending itself to fun sound effects. I chose the story Hilda Must be Dancing by Karma Wilson. It is a story a about a fun
hippo who just wants to dance. The problem is the disruption her heavy feet and
wide build cause to the rest of the jungle animals. You will have to listen to
find their resolution. I chose this story in particular because it has lots of
descriptive adjectives and fun onomatopoeia included. I added some background
noise of the jungle, some loud stomping and a couple of other short clips to
make the story come alive.

Reflection
I think that this assignment is one that I found to be
particularly relevant in my future classroom. I think that the idea of a
recording myself reading a story can be very useful especially with language learners
or students that want to read a book a little outside their level. As stated in
the standard this assignment can address the diverse needs of all learners
because the podcast allows for students to listen to stories they might not
otherwise be able to read. The podcast can be saved to a class music folder on
a portable media player that students can listen to while following along with
the actual text. I was also thinking that it would be nice with future podcast
to even add some picture detail maybe even student made artwork!
There is also the option of students making a podcast for their own future text. It would be a nice way to celebrate student's writing. After they finish a text and draw pictures help the students to make a podcast of them reading their story. The podcast file could even be sent home as a music file to parents who wanted a copy.
